Watch the Connect Diagonally: Whole Step, Half online guitar lesson by Dave Celentano from CAGED Commander
Moving diagonally across the fretboard is another great way to connect the five 'CAGED' scale patterns. Here we'll use a two string/seven note shape that repeats one and two octaves higher. The finger combination for most of this example is 'index, ring, and pinkie'. The pinkie handles the ascending shifts and the index for the descending shifts. The finger board geometry of scales, chords, and arpeggios on the guitar is something every budding guitarist should make a point of visualizing and understanding. See if you can spot which CAGED patterns are being covered here.
