Watch the Connect: Diatonic 6ths online guitar lesson by Dave Celentano from CAGED Commander

Diatonic 6ths are as popular as 3rds and are used in many music genres. The intros to "Wanted Dead Or Alive" by Bon Jovi and "Stormy Monday", the Allman Brothers version, are two great examples. 6ths are also used for turn arounds in the blues and found in many country songs too. The middle finger is used entirely on the 'D string' and also functions as an anchor or pivot point for the alternating fingerings on the 'B string', which are handled by the index (when the higher note is one fret in back of the middle finger) and ring finger (when the higher note is in the same fret as the middle finger). Additionally, 6ths work nicely on the G and high E strings with the same finger combinations.
