Watch the G Form: Major Scale online guitar lesson by Dave Celentano from CAGED Commander
Most guitarists are right at home in the 'G form' scale pattern where myriad rock licks and solos are based. The first part of the solo from "Stairway To Heaven" is mostly out of this pattern! Conversely, the 'G form' barre chord shape is not so favored, most likely because of it's difficult fingering. If the chord grip is too challenging, try playing only the top four strings (D,G,B, and high E), using the index finger to bar the 5th fret and pinkie at the 8th fret/high E string.
