Watch the Shakey’s Kingdom online guitar lesson by Annie Raines from Blues Harmonica Blueprint
This song is called Shakey’s Kingdom and it’s named after Big Walter Horton. Big Walter was known for his enormous tone, soulful delivery and some signature syncopations that we’re going to work on here. This is a 12-bar blues with a fast four or "quick four", a slight variation in that the second measure goes to the IV chord for one bar and then back to the I, and the rest of the changes are the same as a standard 12-bar blues. It’s a good song for learning the form because the melody starts out following the chord changes. After that we’ll learn why he was nicknamed "Shakey".
