Watch the Shuffle/Blues March online guitar lesson by Annie Raines from Blues Harmonica Blueprint
The shuffle, or the blues march, is one of the most popular rhythms in blues. Let’s go back to the triplet part of the first rhythm exercise we did, when we played 1-and-a, 2-and-a, 3-and-a, 4-and-a. This is the triple time the shuffle is based on, but rather than stating the obvious by playing all three triplets, we’re going to leave the middle one, the "and" out, so it will sound like 1-a-2-a-3-a-4-a. Then we’ll add a few more tricks and some accents. This shuffle pattern will be a recurring theme in the video as we keep adding techniques and riffs until it is transformed from a pattern into a song!
