Watch the Tongue-Blocking online guitar lesson by Annie Raines from Blues Harmonica Blueprint

TONGUE-BLOCKING: INTRO: Tongue-blocking is another way of getting a single note. You start with a big open chord like a 1-2-3-4 blow and set your tongue down over holes 1-2-3. This allows you to alternate chords and single notes and become your own rhythm section. It also can improve your tone because your tongue is forward on the harmonica, which opens up a larger space in the back of your throat. Most of the old-time players and all of the Chicago Blues masters tongue-blocked and combined tongue-blocking with other techniques to add to their percussive vocabulary.
