Watch the Tremolo online guitar lesson by Muriel Anderson from 50 Right-Hand Techniques You Must Know

Some of the same techniques used to develop an even, beautiful classical tremolo can be used to develop speed and fluidity with scales. Study of this technique can improve your playing and develop a closer relationship between mind and fingers.

The basic technique is to play a bass note with the thumb (p), and strike the same melody note with three fingers in succession: ring, middle, index (a-m-i). It is a good idea to always practice the tremolo on the second or third string, so that you don’t get into the habit of striking the string at too wide of an angle, making it possible to play tremolo on the first string, but not the others!
