Watch the Leo Kottke Bass online guitar lesson by Muriel Anderson from 50 Right-Hand Techniques You Must Know

I always wished that I could get that nice sweet treble sound over the sound hole while playing a muffled bass, but when you brace your hand against the bridge the fingers are closer to the bridge and more curled than I like to get the best sound.

One day I happened to be backstage with Leo Kottke, and he showed me how he stops his bass notes with the side of his thumb. That was a great discovery! A little different sound than the muffled bass, but it allows me to have a short stopped bass sound and still get the treble tone I like.
