Watch the G# Locrian 4 online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from 50 Modal Licks You MUST Know
I'm using and E7/9 arpeggio to open the phrase of this Locrian lick and I've chosen to play that further up the fretboard as a way of giving you some variety. The next phrase is derived directly from an A Major 7 arpeggio. I start the arpeggio run on the G# to solidify the connection between the single notes and the underlying chords. Of course, you still want to target a chord tone of the G# Minor 7(b5) when ending your phrases, regardless of the arpeggios, triads and any scale runs you choose to improvise with.
