I'm using the G major scale now to play licks that outline and resolve to the II chord in the key of G, A minor 7.
This is a pretty simple lick that actually starts with a pull - off from a non- chord tone, D, which I usually don't do. The reason it's sounds fine to me is that it moves to the root of the chord very quickly and therefore sounds settled or resolved without any dissonance.
The second part of this lick can be seen as a C major 7 arpeggio idea that cascades in a descending fashion towards the resolution of the note G. The G note may be an unusual resolve but it is the b7 of the A minor 7 chord and therefore works very well.
