Watch the D Mixolydian 2 online guitar lesson by Robbie Calvo from 50 Modal Licks You MUST Know

My favorite approach to creating solo lines is to use chord arpeggio's. In this case I'm employing a D9 arpeggio with some added chromatic tones. The second half of the lick is a D Mixolydian scale run which sounds more consonant than the opening line, which I like a lot. Add some tension to the start of the phrase and resolve it nicely on the tail end. Try creating some phrases for yourself in this position of the fretboard and also join lick 30 to lick 29 for a longer phrase.
