Watch the Duane Almost online guitar lesson by James Hogan from 50 All-Purpose Pentatonic Licks

Lick #44 “Duane Almost” is a concept I “borrowed” from a killer guitarist named Jimmy Herring. You may be familiar with Jimmy from his work with The Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, Jazz Is Dead, Derek Trucks, among others. This lick emulates the sound of slide guitar by using bends and slides on one string through A Major and A minor pentatonic. If played effectively it does a great job of sounding like a Duane Allman or Derek Trucks slide guitar lick. For fun, you can practice this lick over the rhumba blues backing track I’ve provided for you.
