Watch the 70’s Shred online guitar lesson by James Hogan from 50 All-Purpose Pentatonic Licks
Lick # 6 “70’s Shred” is a great repeater lick based in Position II of A minor pentatonic. This was one of the “hot” blues rock licks of the day back in the 1970‘s. You’ll hear this quite a bit in the playing of Freddie King, Alvin Lee, Jimmy Page, Gary Rossington, etc. This is a fun lick and it sounds cool. It also employs the use of the “blue note” or b5th that is found around all of the pentatonic boxes. Lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs here too.
