Watch the Showdown on the Silver Sands online guitar lesson by Jason Loughlin from Essentials: Surf Guitar

For this study, we have a bolero rhythm throughout, something that The Shadows used often. The progression bounces back and forth between E major and F major, not a modulation but a shifting of the tonal center. We start in E major and then go straight to F major. The progression that follows can all be thought of as F major: F, Am, C, and Dm all come from the F chord scale. The B7 sets up the change back to E. The hits that follow are back to F major: Am, Bb, and Dm are the iii, IV and vi chord of F major. B7 gets us back to E major. The majority of this melody is built by playing only chord tones. The only time we change direction is for the hits. We'll double pick through an A natural minor scale for the Am chords. The vibrato bar will be used for dips and adding motion to notes.
