Watch the Slide Study 1 online guitar lesson by Sonny Landreth from Slide Supernatural

This is a great tuning for combining harmony, melody and rhythm. On the right hand we are going to get into some Travis picking. First we start off some ghost notes to set up a nice introduction right on the 12th fret with an ethereal quality. Now it gets a little trickier as we incorporate the Travis picking with the melody. With that I’ll be finger guarding the third, second, first finger, controlling that area, and the thumb is controlling the bottom three strings with a slight palm mute. Next I'm going to play the melody which is based largely around the 12th fret. Pay close attention my finger guarding here as I am muting the strings I am not playing. This will take away excess string noise. When I play the melody by itself, note that my right hand position is above where the imaginary 24th fret would be. This allows for some very nice harmonics to ring out.
