Watch the Slide Study 12 online guitar lesson by Sonny Landreth from Slide Supernatural
Let's talk about call and response using two different melodies, two different parts of the neck and register to create a conversational piece. I like to do that using the high strings, for the top melody and answer that with a low strings. So we're using two different octaves and we're going to work our way up to the neck so that the by the time we get to the 12th fret it will be more harmony and that gives it more impact. So we begin with the call and response melodies using some standard slide techniques. When we get to the A note on the 5th fret, I play that fretted while the slide sounds the 9th (B) on the 1st string, this is an extension that I showed you in the techniques section. I also do this at the end of the tune when I fret the C# and play the E and B on the high strings giving us a C# minor chord. What we are really doing here is a chord melody, and while doing this I am thinking about where I want to play the notes with my right hand to get a warmer sound out of the strings. This study is a little complicated and uses a few difficult techniques. So move through it slowly making sure the notes played with the slide are in tune.
