Watch the Open Dm Tuning online guitar lesson by Sonny Landreth from Slide Supernatural

D minor going low to high. This has a real moody feel and vibe about it because we are working with a minor third. It's exactly the same as D tuning, the only difference is we're taking the third string and dropping it down a half step. So to spell out the chords it's D, F, A. Low to high on the big string - you have the low D. Go up to the fifth string you have A. Up to the fourth string you have an octave D, octave to the big note here. Go up to the third string and we have F natural, and that makes it the minor chord. Then to the second string, another A, an octave to the low A. And lastly on the high string we have the top D. So you have three Ds. Just like D major tuning except we drop the third string down to an F natural. You've got a big D minor chord, sounds very ominous. So you can get real vibey with this especially with vibrato. And again you can use those octaves. And going into more of a crunch mode, it really sings.
