I have always loved this exercise because it is quite a challenge. You have to use very good breath support to get through both arpeggios, and the second arpeggio is staccato, which requires extremely good coordination of your diaphragm and breath support. To sing staccato notes correctly - notes that have no sustain - you must develop specific control. Remember the staccato hissing exercise. The 'H' must be pronounced, but you do not 'push' air. However, you must activate your diaphragm. At the same time, you must keep all your enunciation forward in your mask just like all the exercises we've already done.
