Doing the lip trill over scales will help you learn to negotiate your break, and it will get you singing up into your head voice, possibly higher than you ever thought you would. Like the siren, create as much space in your mouth as possible for the higher notes. It's trickier when you have your mouth closed, but remember that small movements make huge differences in tone quality.
As you get comfortable with the exercise, raise your soft palate, and keep your throat open and relaxed, larynx in its natural speaking position, of course.
Don't separate each note in the arpeggio. Keep the notes connected, and legato. Don't start lower or go higher than is comfortable. Come in when you can, and lay out at the top if you have to. Then come in again and work back down. It is important to work up and down the scale since there is a slightly different coordination that happens from chest to head vs. head to chest.
