When you do this exercise, you will feel that column of air that I talked about. First, let all your breath out. Now take in a breath, keeping your shoulders down, ribs down and out, back and sides expanded out. Pull up from your groin. This allows your abdominal muscles to

regulate the action of your diaphragm as you release the air. As soon as you get this position right, and get that breath in, begin to let it out with a hiss. Control that airflow. Keep it consistent. No rushing, no stops and starts. Maintain, maintain, maintain.

Once you get the hang of it, time yourself. If you are under 20-25 seconds, work on this exercise consistently until you can maintain that hiss for 30-35 seconds. If you are able to do 35-40 seconds or more, congratulations! You have good air capacity and great control. Still - do this exercise often enough to become familiar with the column of air and how to control it.
