Watch the The Mask online guitar lesson by Karan Andrea from Guitar Player Wanted: Vocals A Plus

The mask is where your enunciation and resonance happens. It is the area around and including your mouth and nose. You will learn how to place the tone your cords are generating, into your mask. With higher notes, you may be able to feel the roof of your mouth and the cartilage in your nose buzz or vibrate. Some singers never experience this, and some do. It's fine either way, but if you do feel it, it may startle you at first. You may also have heard the term 'forward placement' - this is related to the mask - forward placement simply means that you are putting all of your enunciation in the tip of your tongue, and right around the area just behind your top front teeth. This ensures that you are creating the best tone and pitch.
