The sounds of the Orient and Asia are familiar to many people for its calm, ambient, meditative and relaxing effects. Many yoga and meditation sessions are aided with the music of the East.
Some Japanese stringed instruments, like the Shamisen and the Koto, create a striking effect when played. We're going to get the Koto and Shamisen effect on the guitar by using the Japanese pentatonic scale, following a strict picking attack near the bridge, and using erratic, sharp bends on notes. We'll look at some interesting two handed techniques that can be used to create a convincing Koto effect as well.
