Watch the Chords: Natural Harmonics online guitar lesson by Jennifer Batten from Rock Sauce for Rhythm Guitar
There are several ways to get harmonics from the guitar. I’m going to start with natural harmonics. This takes a bit of memorizing because although some harmonics are octaves of the note positions if you’d fretted them, not all of them are. i.e. If you play the low E string at the 5th fret, it’s an A, but if you play a natural harmonic there, it’s an E (an octave and a 5th above the A). To get a clear tone from a natural harmonic, place your finger directly above the fret wire and pick it, but don’t push the string down. Playing chords with harmonics is just a matter of knowing how to spell chords, and finding the chord tones within the harmonics.
