Watch the Alternate Picked Pedal Trip online guitar lesson by Jennifer Batten from Rock Sauce For Lead Guitar

Understanding what's involved in a phrase theoretically, will help you be able to transition from just memorizing a phrase to being able to morph it into other grooves and keys and then to create your own, based off the concept. In the first phrase, the basic idea is playing a dorian scale pattern in thirds. Instead of playing within a normal scale fingering, it's played descending on one string with the open D string as a pedal breaking up the pattern. The other riffs involve using a fretted pedal tone alternating with progressively larger intervals and string skips.
