Watch the Tremolo Sauce online guitar lesson by Jennifer Batten from Rock Sauce For Lead Guitar
The tremolo bar is one of the ultimate tools for expression. It allows you to get closer to the freedom that a singer has to slide into and out of notes, and it can also offer a very different sound from physically bending strings with your fingers. You can emulate playing slide guitar, get a smoother (sharp and flat) vibrato, get a flutter effect, and play entire harmonic melodies or phrases with it. Depending on which way you bend it, you can emulate a harmonica-like vibrato or an Arabic sound. With the whammy pedal, you can do many of the same things as the bar does, but you can also expand harmonics possibilities, plus play octaves way beyond the natural guitar range.
