Watch the Rhythm Guitar Approach online guitar lesson by Reeves Gabrels from Rock Inside Out
When I play rhythm guitar, there are a few things that I try to do to improve my playing. I try to make rhythm guitar not about straight comping and try to let the color of the chords show through. One of the rhythm guitar techniques I think is very useful is something called “pedal ostinato,” in which I try to find the largest common denominator among the chords. It can be as simple as a few notes, and by including it within the chords I can create a more inventive rhythm part.
