Power chord brother!

Here is a straight up rock power chord example. This would be a better way to play the rhythm if there was a vocalist. As I always say there is no right or wrong, you might like the first rhythm better for the vocals to lay over, so really experiment with this idea. You always want to take the concepts that you learn and apply them with your own feel and ideas. I love how Eric Johnson puts it, by learning licks and influences you begin to blend the styles all together and eventually come out with an amalgamation of your own style. I like this example a lot because it really takes advantage of those 4ths.
