Watch the The Beach: Solo 2 online guitar lesson by Trey Alexander from Quantum Rock

This solo will cover a lot of different concepts. We’ll start with some doubling of the same riff in 2 different octaves. This is going to bring a nice flair to catch the attention of the listener. Then you notice that we’ll use a series of repeating lines. I like to do this and find that when playing live it will give me something to work off of. Then we will overview a fast legato lick. Remember that these licks only have one strike from the pick per string. Let your left hand do the work. You can pick this too and that will give you almost a machine gun effect. Very cool as well. Towards the end of the solo we hit some of the two handed tapping and the “taps from nowhere” ideas that we talked about earlier. This is one of my favorite licks and it is very influenced by Greg Howe. Make sure you watch the tablature and concentrate tapping with the left hand for those lower notes and using the right one for the higher notes. This is a blast and again make sure to use these concepts all over the entire fretboard!
