Watch the Pop 2: Rhythm 2 online guitar lesson by Trey Alexander from Quantum Rock

Here we will look at how a couple of single note lines can really keep the groove jiving! Musicians such as Larry Carlton, Scott Henderson, Mike Stern and the Brecker Brothers guitarists make great use out of these concepts. Remember most importantly we want these songs to groove and sound good. Try anything you can to do this, whether it's full chords or partial chords or even single note lines. The way I try to think about it is what would I want to sing over or solo over and how would I want the song to move through the climaxes of those individual ideas.

We also brush over some great 6ths ideas, and how these can be used to comp as fragment chords. This will give a lot of movement to the chords so remember to apply them everywhere that you can and really have a good time!
