Watch the Latin Groove: Solo 1 online guitar lesson by Trey Alexander from Quantum Rock
So here we talk about soloing clean over a blues style progression. This uses the E minor scale and the E minor pentatonic. So feel free to expand on any of these ideas. In the first part I start with the harmonics on the 12th fret and the 7th fret. Then I play a very similar line for each of the chord changes. This gives some consistency and provides the listener with something to hold on to. Imagine it like you are having a conversation. You start with a statement or sentence and then you elaborate on that sentence until you come up with a full conversation about one idea. After this section I use some variations of repeating lines. Remember again to hold on to some of these ideas and elaborate on them. This solo eventually goes into some chordal ideas. Again very Hendrixy and a very nice thing to do to compliment the chords and to feel the progression change. I then use some Stevie Ray Vaughan style licks. I am super influenced by him so definitely check him out too. These pentatonic riffs are sure to rev up your playing so memorize all of these techniques and apply them to all kinds of different solos and keys.
