Watch the Stormy: Ex. 5a online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Kings of Rock & Roll Vol. 3: Duane Allman

Duane Allman was a blues/rock master, a guitarist that learned his lessons well from his blues heroes like B.B., Albert and Freddie King as well as Otis Rush, T-Bone Walker, and Buddy Guy, but was also influenced by horn players like King Curtis; Duane mixed all of these influences together with his own brilliant abilities.
These next two excerpts are based on Duane's improvisations over the T-Bone Walker blues classic, "Stormy Monday," captured beautifully on At Fillmore East. Though these lines reveal a strong B.B. King influence, the phrases are uniquely Duane's in terms of touch, tone and melodicism, and are based primarily on the G major pentatonic scale (G A B D E).
