Watch the Blue Sky: Ex. 3b online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Kings of Rock & Roll Vol. 3: Duane Allman
In this solo excerpt, I begin with a technique known as an oblique bend: while fretting a high B note, second string/12th fret, I bend an F#, fretted on the 11th fret of the third string, up one whole step to G#. This results in the sound of the major third (G#) and the fifth (B) simultaneously, and replicates a sound and technique associated with the pedal steel guitar. Notice also the use of pull-offs from the 12th to either the 10th or 9th fret on both the high E and B strings; Duane loved to use this technique and came up with a great many interesting riffs using it.
