Watch the Shore Leave Shuffle online guitar lesson by Angus Clark from Hard Rock Survival Guide: Rhythm

You won't make it through any of my courses without a little dose of Thin Lizzy. This is a shuffle rhythm exercise using full chords. It's a great example of how to use dynamics in the rhythm part. Watch how I use the volume knob on the guitar to create a real change going into the chorus. We're leaving a lot of space during the verse, and then using a very specific rhythmic pattern through the other sections. Be sure to get it all down just as it's played in the example. Don't get fancy with the rhythms, play them as demonstrated. This is an exercise about creating a pocket with the bass and drums. It has to leave room for the vocal. If you start strumming away willy nilly it will all fall apart.
