Watch the Triplet Rhythms and Shuffles online guitar lesson by Angus Clark from Hard Rock Survival Guide: Rhythm

Aah, the triplet. I'm putting triplets together with shuffle rhythms. Let's start with the basic triplet rhythm on a power chord. All down strokes.

Now, instead of doing a shuffle all downstrokes, I often like to use an up/down motion in my right hand, cause it just feels less stiff.

As you get into faster tempos, for either triplets or sixteenth feels (or even eighths if the tempo is really up there), you'll need to use a down up motion in your right hand - and at this point I will regularly just play the root of the chord when muting. There's a lot of room for error if you try to play both strings.
