Watch the Acoustic? Sure! online guitar lesson by Angus Clark from Hard Rock Survival Guide: Rhythm
When it's time for your radio spot you have to figure out how to enable the singer to convey the song with all the emotion they would deliver with a full band backing them up. Not an easy trick when all you have is a six string acoustic. You will very often have to approach the song differently and figure out how to get as many open chords and color strings ringing as possible. Don't be afraid to use a capo, and open up the sound using traditional strum patterns rather than your down-stroke heavy electric style. Here's a hot tip: I use a lighter gauge pick for acoustic work. I use a 1.0 mm Ultex for electrics, but I use a traditional M gauge Fender-style pick for acoustic stuff. I tried to use an L, but I shredded it.
