I'm creating some continuity in this solo with some little motives. Motives are short phrases like the opening of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Nothing like a bit of the old Ludwig Van for some proper inspiration. I bet he never used his middle pickup either. B's 5 is a study in motivic development. That motion in the opening phrase is repeated at different pitch levels throughout the piece. Same idea here. I'm imitating some of Blackmore's style of bending as well as some choices like working from the 9th position while in G minor. The solo keep moving up the neck and when the rhythm section pays it off back into the main riff I hit the bridge pickup and do the classic stutter descending bend, plus a couple of other pentatonic licks.

Breaking up the diatonic and pentatonic work creates contrast. Light and shade, as I've heard many British artists describe it (thank you Glenn Tipton). Use this concept in your playing. Self-imposed restrictions create new problem-solving opportunities. And new solutions.
