Watch the The I-V-vi-IV online guitar lesson by Ravi from Guitar Lab: 30 Rock & Pop Progressions

This is by far one of the most common progressions in pop music. In order to add interest to a I-V-I-IV progression, substitute the second I for its relative minor, the vi. You can also start the progression midway through and circle around to create more sounds. Accenting during your strums really adds individuality to chord progressions. Sometimes, more of a reggae feel will be more appropriate, or perhaps finger picking. You can even just pinch and slap the strings to give more of a percussive feel.

Examples: I'm Yours, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Don't Stop Believing, With or Without You, Forever Young, Hey Soul Sister, Let It Be, Under The Bridge, No Woman No Cry, When I Come Around, U and Your Hand, Torn, Waiting on the World To Change, Poker Face
