Watch the Duffy's Edge: 2 online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from Guitar Cubed

Guitars 1 & 2 it’s hard not to fixate yourself on Guitar 2 in the bottom half of the split screen view. There’s movement all over the place as a result of the combination of natural harmonics and fretted notes that just sounds so cool! That said, don’t discount Guitar 1’s huge role here as it is the backbone of all three parts and it’s not that easy to play. You gotta be ultra-precise with your changes so there’s no gaps in sound especially in the palm mutes.

That said, in Guitar 2 watch how the fret hand 3rd finger after holding down the final Asus2 grip in the initial four bars makes the flight from the 2nd fret to the 12th to nail the natural harmonic on the 3rd string. In that same part it’s all in the arch of the fingers that makes the harp-like ringing of harmonics and fretted notes possible.

Throughout the entire performance you can’t miss the fret hand thumb hanging over the neck doing its job muting out the lower strings in both Guitars 1 & 2. This is most apparent in the second half where Guitar 2 kicks it up a notch with the open string drone riff that demands there only are the intended strings played or else the part is mush.
