Watch the Rifi Hendrix: 6 online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from Guitar Cubed

In Stiff Upper Lip you had a Guitar 2 part that played off Guitar 1 big time, but with certain criteria that ensured both it’s own character and place in the mix. Here in Rifi Hendrix Guitar 2 doles out the same, but with some new tactics to do so. The crux of Guitar 1 is apparent rhythmically in Guitar 2, but check out how it’s arranged both melodically AND harmonically. Keep an eye on the 4th finger and watch how it slickly breaks out of the first ascending chromatic passage played in the IV chord riff within bar 10 to smoothly fall into a 10th position G5 chord rooted off the 5th string. Finally, study the overall physical placement of the entire part as concessions were made for timbral equality between Guitars 1 & 2. These details as well as the rest of the story will be mapped out in the next segment.
