Not only do the guitar parts depart from much of what we’ve done thus far in Guitar Cubed, but so does the rhythm section. First, the standard backbeat snare drum approach is skewed a bit with the second hit that’s normally on beat 4 is now heard at the 4th 16th of beat 4. In addition to that, this is the most syncopated kick drum pattern thus far in Guitar Cubed with the five attacks per bar following a Jimmy Nolen-like 3:4 feel in the first four bars and then switching it up in the second four bars where the 5th attack is played a 16th note sooner.

As for the bass, with all that action in the kick, you know the line is going to be all over it! And, it is. Aside from the Bb played at the end of the line at the downbeat of beat 4, the bass keeps a steady Eb root leaving the doors wide open for all three guitar parts. And, man, do they take that ball and run with it.
