Watch the Billy's ZZ Boogie online guitar lesson by Will Sophie from 50 Southern Rock Licks You MUST Know

With Texas Boogie we immediately think of Mr. Gibbons from ZZ Top. On their album: 'Tres Hombres', ZZ Top recorded their famous hit: 'La Grange', featuring some splendid guitar chops by Billy F. Gibbons. This tight syncopated way of playing became his signature sound from then on. Lick 42 is in his tradition. With a strong offbeat pattern in the guitar riff you're gonna get that nice space in between. Bass and drums will fit right in. The right combination of these two parts is gonna give you that authentic Texas boogie feel. This is actually based on the early 1940's Boogie Woogie, as can be heard in recordings by Glenn Miller, The Andrew Sisters and early Louis Jordan. This piece is in the key of A. It contains the power chord A, a little syncopated chord progression and some hammer-on and pull-off techniques.
