Watch the Landing the Plane online guitar lesson by Neil Zaza from 50 Melodic Rock Licks You MUST Know
Grand and anthemic solos are fantastic. They add energy and a huge sense of grandeur to any solo. The trick, though, is how to get out of that high energy situation and end the phrase musically. This feat can be accomplished through the use of some well placed slides to break the momentum and then a descending line played using a stretch that acts as a musical "speed bump". When you add these to your soloing toolbox the listener will be gently led to a peaceful conclusion. These tricks are great in other applications as well. Your imagination is the limit when you apply these concepts to your own progressions.
