Watch the Climbing the Arps online guitar lesson by Neil Zaza from 50 Melodic Rock Licks You MUST Know
This lick is all about making a lot out of very little. This is a classic example of expanding and inverting a chord around the neck for great melodic effect. The chord in question is a simple B chord that is being arpeggiated by choosing the 1, 3 and 5 chord tones. How we stretch it out over time as well as on the neck of the guitar is by inverting the chord notes by putting the 3rd in the bass. This allows us to head right up the neck at a rapid rate. Keep a good hand position throughout this and you will find this very exciting to play.
