Watch the Less Is More online guitar lesson by Neil Zaza from 50 Melodic Rock Licks You MUST Know

Life is complex enough. Let’s focus on the simple things in life, like constructing a solo or melody in the simplest way possible with the least amount of notes. You’ll hear this philosophy a lot in this course, but elements like space and time play a huge roll in the crafting of a nice theme. I would imagine what we are all going for is to have the listener be drawn into the melody upon their first listen and actually have it still in their head. For this to happen the melody has to be really simple and concise. Trim away all of the fat and extraneous notes that aren’t needed and only leave the bare essentials. In this lick I am only using basically five notes to get the melody across and occasionally venture into a lower octave for some color. I’m staying in the first two strings of the F major scale. Less is more!
