Watch the Hopscotch online guitar lesson by Jon Finn from 30 Melodic Modal Rock Licks You MUST Know

"Hopscotch" is in D Aeolian, and it does lots of hopping and leaping around. Most of this lick is based on open voiced triad arpeggios which are played on the 5th, 4th, and 2nd strings. Dm arpeggio, Bb arpeggio, then 6ths interval licks finally ending on the note G. The first lick is a Dm arpeggio. Play the D with your first finger, play the A with your pinky finger, and the F with your third finger because you slide that third finger down to the third fret so you can use those other fingers to play the Bb arpeggio. Slide up two frets for the C chord. Then, you play an inversion of the C, then jump up and play the Gm arpeggio. Go backwards on the Dm arpeggio, slide and go upwards on the Bb arpeggio, slide up to the C for the 6ths run. There are no shortcuts unfortunately. Pay attention to the fingerings. Check the notation and tablature to get the finer details. Practice with the backing track, then invent your own version of this lick!
