Watch the Two Mile Island online guitar lesson by Jon Finn from 30 Melodic Modal Rock Licks You MUST Know
This starts with a 16th-note triplet figure that outlines the sound of a Dm9 chord. It'll take some practice to get the timing right and fast enough to meet the tempo. Note that this lick also uses a "swing 16ths" feel.
The second measure starts on the note B (the 3rd of the G9 chord, as well as the 6th degree of the D Dorian scale, the characteristic note for D Dorian). After the "almost" pentatonic figure, there's a passage that uses slides and leaps to create a cool, but diatonic and slightly unpredictable sound. Check the notation and tablature to get the finer details. Practice with the backing track, then invent your own version of this lick!
