Watch the Chord Mileage online guitar lesson by Robben Ford from Rhythm Revolution: Vamps & Jams

This is a jam on the chord progression to a song I wrote for a record called Tiger Walk, the song being called "Oasis". It was an entirely instrumental record, written a while after my stint with Miles Davis. Having played with him strongly influenced my playing for a long time, so the record was the culmination of his impression that was made on me harmonically and even energetically when he went electric. It's kind of a combination of both the old and the new, and for this song in particular I had Miles' "So What" in mind. The song only has two chords in it, moving up a minor third to make the change.

In this video, we'll be going through some of the chord voicings and rhythm techniques I used in the performance example. Play around with the voicings, and find which ones you need to work on. Once you get them down, you'll see how using different chord voicings can make all the difference when playing an idea like this one.
