Watch the The I ii IV I Progression online guitar lesson by Vicki Genfan from Rhythm Makeover: Vicki Genfan

This is a I-ii-IV-I progression in the key of A. Our chords are A-Bm-D-A. This progression has a bit of a Doobie Brother (Listen to the music) feel to it and works real well in a folk-rock setting. Our first approach uses single note lines to lead into tightly played, syncopated triad bursts. The second approach uses an open G tuning (D-G-D-G-B-D) with the capo on the 2nd fret. We’ll play a really groovy strumming pattern that highlights the rich voicings and ringing open strings that we can get with this tuning.
