Watch the The I IV V I Progression online guitar lesson by Vicki Genfan from Rhythm Makeover: Vicki Genfan
This is a I-IV-V-I progression and comes right out of blues or rock and roll. It’s used in thousands of rock, blues, pop and folk songs. Our rhythm track is playing more of a rock groove, but our two approaches will feature a bluesy and a more folky accompaniment.
The first approach features the bluesy approach adding the dominant 7 to each chord and using a very stacatto rhythmic pattern. The second approach uses a palm muted bass note pattern along with major 7ths and suspended chords to create a pop-folk, John Mayer type of sound.
