Watch the The iii vi ii V Progression online guitar lesson by Vicki Genfan from Rhythm Makeover: Vicki Genfan

This is a iii-vi-ii-V progression in the key of C. Our chords are Em-Am-Dm-G. The first approach uses chords in first position and creates a nice rhythmic contrast to the accents of the bass drum and bass. We’re using RH palm muting to create a chunky texture. The 2nd approach uses voicings in the 7th-10th frets that use only the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings. We’ll be playing straight quarter notes on the beat - which also contrasts with the rhythm section, but in a completely different way. The feel in this approach is more driving.
